Gabriella Posch, Spinning® Master Instructor | Hungary
Posted by Spinning® on Apr 18th 2018
That's quite an interesting story because I had never gone to work out in a gym before. As a fanatic enthusiast of rock climbing, I had never imagined that an indoor workout could be fun too. I heard about Spinning® from a friend of mine first, he was praising it all the time saying how great an endurance training it was, and you can work out pushing the pedals in good company with good music and following the moves of an inspiring instructor. He got me interested and I tried it. To cut it short, I fell hopelessly in love with pushing the pedals by the end of the 5th minute of the first class, so I changed from rock climbing to mountain biking in a year.
What inspired you to become a Certified Spinning® Instructor and then a Master Instructor?
I had been participating in Spinning classes for nearly two years without the thought of becoming an instructor ever crossing my mind. When the manager of a newly-opened gym in my town asked me if I felt like completing the Spinning Instructor Training, I turned him down flat. I had no self-confidence whatsoever, but my parents finally convinced me to do it -I owe it to them for the rest of my life! Eventually when I began teaching classes, I soon found that this was the right thing for me. I realized that I loved teaching and I feel incredibly motivated by being able to motivate others. The title of Master Instructor means the same to me: it gives me the chance to teach, to transfer my knowledge and to motivate others - regardless if it is a Spinning Instructors Training, continuing education course or just a class in either a Hungarian or an international Spinning event.
What do you love about teaching Spinning® classes?
I am thrilled by two particular components of the Spinning Program and these are the reasons why I will never be bored with teaching. The first is the scientific foundations of the Spinning program. I know of no other fitness training program having such a sound sport science base as Spinning. I feel greatly inspired by being able to include some of this knowledge into each Spinning class. In other words, Spinning allows you to teach and “educate" the participants in addition to simply presenting them a class. The other highly inspiring factor is the presentational aspect of teaching a class. Just giving instructions as to what to do and how doesn't require much effort at all. On the other hand, to motivate participants, to inspire and captivate their imagination is a challenge that gives me endless prospects for development.
What are your top three favorite songs to play during your Spinning® classes and why?
It's hard to pick the top three, so let me just mention the three pieces that are close to my heart and first come to my mind.
- Afro Celt Sound System – "Mojave"
- Mark Knight & Funkagenda – "The Man With The Red Face"
- Solar Fields – "Active Sky"
What makes Spinning® such a great workout?
You can be on the bike too. You can enjoy the captivating and fantastically inspiring atmosphere of a group while you can do your own workout that best suits your goals. You can be free and use your intelligence while you can also allow your innermost feelings and instincts to come to the surface.
Share a memory from your experience as a teacher/coach/presenter that embodies the value of being a Certified Spinning® Instructor or Spinning® Master Instructor.
I have countless memories like that. Each moment when I see someone grow shows me the value of my work –regardless if they are Spinning class participants or instructors.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about becoming a Certified Spinning® Instructor?
I would tell them to stop thinking about it, just do it instead. Nobody is born as a professional instructor, but anybody can become one if they are dedicated enough to personal growth. Open your wings and be the world's best instructor –it's all up to you!
What’s one of your favorite motivational quotes?
"I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." -Albert Einstein
Do you have a hero in the Spinning® community, someone who deserves recognition for their leadership?
Luciana Marcial-Vincion and Martin Timmermann. In my view, they both incorporate the essence of true leadership. They are confident, assertive, positive and supportive while their personality is completely free of any aggression. Since I am a Star Wars fan, I think the best way to put it is to say that the force is with them. I think they are not only masters of Spinning, they are Jedi Masters too.
Is there anything about you that would surprise people?
Etology was my favourite subject at the university. I love all kinds of animals but I am particularly mesmerized by the behaviour of dogs and wolves. My dogs and I are volunteers in the research projects of the world-famous Etology Department of ELTE University –we contribute to the progress of science.Gabriella Posch is a cycling coach, personal trainer, recreational sports instructor with a degree in communication studies.
